The Wipers

In November 1903 Anderson received a patent for an automatic car window cleaning device.  We now call it the windshield wiper.  The wiper was controlled manually from the inside of the car.

Anderson tried selling the device to some manufacturing companies.  No one thought that such invention was a good idea.  People scoffed at Anderson saying that the wipers would cause distraction to the driver and therefore cause accidents

Anderson also tried selling her invention to a Canadian manufacturing firm.  Like all the others, the company turned her down saying that, “The device had no practical value and it was not worth the money”

Unfortunately, Anderson’s patent expired before she was able to make any money.  She did not continue to work on the device.
